Somewhere in the middle....

Watching the news this morning I was struck by how obvious the solutions to big problems can be to an outsider. I frequently hear my family, children included, talking to the TV offering a suggestion that actually seems a perfect one. I suppose this is what happens when an issue is presented to a fresh pair of eyes, someone who isn’t entrenched in the whys and wherefores, caught up in the history of who said what when and how.

A fresh pair of eyes is exactly what is needed and yet it can be difficult for us to find our own. It isn’t easy take a different look at our own work scenarios or personal battles. Maybe that is where mediation can be very useful, holding the space for us to explore a different point of view. Not to tell what we should do ( like my nine year old does to the football referee!) but to help us find our own fresh pair of eyes – somewhere in the middle of what is going on.
